It is no secret that there are forces in the world that would oppose the United States of America at every turn and would revel in our demise. In fact, it is sadly less of a secret these days that there are forces enumerated among our own citizenry that would likewise celebrate the downfall of American culture and our superpower status in the world. The word “Patriot” has long been the name given to those who would stand in the gap to prevent any such forces from achieving their objective. At least as of the date of this article, patriots have held the line and the United States of America remains free and prosperous. However, as it is often said, name calling is the last resort of the desperate. Cancel culture which mocks and derides patriots for their stance have been left no resort but start insinuating that “patriot” is a dirty word. Desperate indeed, but hear me now and the entire staff at Tactical Pro Supply when we say that the word patriot is not now, nor will it ever be, a dirty word in the United States of America. Let me explain.
Name Calling and Cancel Culture Go Hand in Hand
Personally, I’ll give it about six months before cancel culture sets its eyes on the NFL’s New England Patriots. Honestly, I’m surprised that elements of the anti-American citizenry have not already demanded the Patriots change their name. After all, the patriots who fought for our liberty were pro second amendment, pro free speech, and certainly, they chose to put America first in their day. Now, that is not to say that they were without fault. It is in fact terribly disappointing that not all of the founding fathers were able to rise above their time and see the evil that was slavery or the suppression of women’s rights.
However, the discernible truth is that all Americans of every faith, race, and creed who enjoy freedom today do so on the bedrock of liberty that those men helped create. We stand on the backs of patriots who willingly gave their lives so that America would be free from tyranny. As such, patriot has always been a word with positive connotations in America. That was, until cancel culture arrived and the name calling began.
You see, name calling is indeed the last resort of the desperate and it works hand in hand with cancel culture. If you cannot win someone over with the logic of your position, then just call them a name. If you cannot convince someone to join your cause, then grab the pitchforks and torches and let’s cancel them. Cancel culture is what happens when your arguments fail to convince others of the merit of your position. If you can’t beat them, then cancel them into submission. As it currently stands, anti-American forces cannot convince patriots to lay down their arms and as such, they have resorted to simply trying to make patriot a dirty word. It’s not going to happen on our watch.
Lament America’s Wrongs, but Celebrate Our Evolution
Cancel culture would point to all the wrongs America has committed in the past and lest you think this is simply an intellectually void, “America F&#$ yeah” article, listen to this. America has, in the great moral arch of the universe, committed wrongs and injustice. I’m not going to argue that, as it’s not a stable position from which to fight anti-Americanism. Rather, let us celebrate this remarkable truth. Namely that America has always self-corrected.
That’s right. We didn’t need some foreign army to invade and set us straight. When the evils of slavery became generationally apparent, America fought with itself to get it right. When it was clear that women were not given the proper place of human dignity in our republic, we amended our constitution. When segregation was rampant and civil rights were denied far to many Americans, we as a nation endured that painful conversation and self-corrected.
This great experiment we call America is not frozen in time nor beholden to any one generation of men and women. We are fleshing out the very difficult conversation on what it means to be a human in the universe and as the great Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” In every generation that has moved America forward one more step along that moral arc, patriots have been required to safeguard that progress from the forces that would destroy it all. Patriot is not now, nor will it ever be, a dirty word in the United States of America.
Defend the Name That You Have So Rightfully Earned
It is no secret that big tech has been working overtime to control the narrative in the United States of America. Moreover, it is no secret that big tech and big government have set their sights on our children in the battle for their minds. If they can just get you to think that “patriot” is a dirty word, then maybe they’ll shy away from protecting speech in their generation. If they can somehow link the word “patriot” to reprehensible acts of domestic terrorism, then perhaps our children will lay down their arms and abdicate their 2nd amendment rights.
If you consider yourself a patriot, then wear that title without shame or reservation. You’d be surprised how many messages we got telling us to take down our patriotic gear in the wake of the January 6th, 2021 storming of the U.S. Capitol. Now, you’d be pleased with the numerous ways we were able to creatively and professionally tell them to go have intercourse with themselves, but it’s sad that it was even required of us.
Patriot is not a dirty word my friends. It never will be and the day we let it become a dirty word marks the day that we are perilously close to embracing the tyranny our forefathers fought. We do not suppose that we have reached the final stop on the moral arc of the universe in our generation any more than our forefathers did in theirs. We just know that as we travel that arc, patriots will be required to secure our freedom along that journey, lest we lose our way.
Name Calling is the Last Resort of the Desperate
Guard your hearts and guard your minds during the next few years of American life. There are those who would promise you a bullet train to justice if you would just set aside your arms. Wolves in sheep's clothing will tell you that we can achieve equity if you will but surrender the speech that they believe is holding it up. They will ask you to join them as they mock and deride the “patriots” and “deplorables” as then, we can finally have “unity.” May it never be and we here at Tactical Pro Supply will have no part in it.
Winston Churchill once famously wrote, “The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.” The incontrovertible truth is that patriot is not now, nor will it ever be, a dirty word in the United States of America. Yes, malice has already saw fit to attack the word patriot and ignorance has found joy in trying to deride it, but in the end, there it is. Patriots in the United States of America will safeguard our freedoms as we ride the long and inevitable journey along the moral arc of the universe. May our children reap the benefits and may they never be ashamed to call themselves a patriot.
